Talk To Marc Jacobs, Creative Director Of Louis Vuitton
Paris Fashion blooms in Shanghai. Do you still remember the express train through time and space at the Louis Vuitton autumn and winter show in March this year? It had pulled into the Louvre square in Paris. Now, this express train is embarking on a wonderful journey again, crossing the two continents of Europe and Asia, heading east to Shanghai. Before the show, creative director of Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs Interview.
Q: You have cooperated with many artists. Will you continue to cooperate with artists in the future?
A: Of course, our latest partner is Japanese ghost designer Yoshio Kusama, whose works are full of imaginative ideas. That is, last week, this series of cooperation items just started to sell. I will continue to cooperate with artists in the future. Now I don't know who the next partner will be, but we will cooperate with more artists.
Q: Have you ever felt tired in this fast changing fashion circle? What's your secret of keeping energetic?
A: For me, my 15 years in LV have not always been full of energy. Of course, I will be very excited and energetic in the moment of inspiration and creativity. But what I want to say is that no road is smooth, especially in the fashion circle. The process of creativity is constantly fluctuating, and everyone will experience highs and lows.
Q: If you were asked to use one word to describe the show, what word would you choose?
A: If only one word is used, I think it should be gorgeous (magnificent)! Indeed, the whole series is gorgeous, and the whole show is magnificent, just like a dream shining into reality. So it seems that one word really can't describe it. I think dream, journey, these words can also reflect the connotation of the whole series. This is really difficult for me. I can think of countless words to describe this attempt.
Q: It has been 15 years since you joined LV, during which you have constantly brought us all kinds of surprises, and you have also brought your changeable personal style into the brand design, introducing LV into a new era. What is your philosophy in the past 15 years?
A: From the very beginning, I and the entire LV team have always believed in the team spirit, and always uphold the soul of the LV brand. We insist on bringing customers quality and luxury enjoyment, and as a designer, I am willing to accept challenges, whether in creativity or technology. I also always insist on pleasing customers so that they can think, dream and desire through my design. I think these are the ideas that LV team and I have adhered to for 15 years.
Q: Now more and more young people want to become fashion designers. Which way do you think is more suitable for personal development, to establish their own personal brand or to design for well-known large companies?
A: Young people have all kinds of dreams. It is good to be a painter, artist, designer. Of course, it is good to pursue dreams in one's life, but what is more needed on the way to pursue dreams is persistence, passion, courage and ambition. I have been in the fashion circle for 28 years, and my career is full of ups and downs. It is only in the past 15 years (during the LV tenure) that I changed from a nobody to a well-known designer. I have worked and suffered a lot, but I never thought about giving up. I never have any backup plan. I just want to be a fashion designer, and I would like to experience more setbacks to realize this dream. For those young people who want to be designers, I just want to tell them to believe in themselves and intuition, and never give up.
Q: Do you think this Shanghai show is another peak of your career?
A: This trip to Shanghai is very beautiful. This is my first time to Shanghai. I love this city. I always look at a new city with romantic eyes. What I see is not the real face of a city, but more the side I want to focus on. So I came to Shanghai three nights ago. The whole city was ablaze with lights. The decoration we saw when we arrived at the hotel was also very beautiful. I like classical Chinese decoration, and I also like the feeling of the intersection of classical and modern. Here I can see the post-modern architecture, the beautiful neon lights that decorate the city, and the traditional Chinese style decoration. This feeling is so wonderful, it seems to be in a dream.
Q: Will you come to Shanghai often in the future?
A: I'm not sure. My journey will always follow my work, but next time I want to go to Beijing. Maybe in October, it may not be possible, but I will strive for it.
